Miles Sound System SDK 7.2a

Sound under Nintendo Wii

Discussion

The Miles Sound System on Wii supports the same uncompressed PCM, IMA ADPCM, MP3, and Ogg Vorbis digital sound formats that we support on our other platforms. ADPCM, MP3 and Ogg Vorbis are not natively supported by the Wii, but Miles makes the decompression and streaming to the sound hardware seamless. In particular, the ADPCM and MP3 decompressors are very well-optimized for the Wii.

Miles on the Wii also offers fully-integrated 2D and 3D sound. SRS CircleSurround and Dolby Surround offer easy ways to add multi-speaker audio to your title.

Miles uses its built-in DLS synthesizer for all MIDI playback. This has the advantage of allowing you to author custom DLS instrument sets to optimize memory use.
